Get Your Chocolate Fix with a 28 Degrees Martini

January 26, 2012 – 12:26 pm

Chocolate Martini

With Valentine’s Day quickly approaching, like many of us, BostoNite contributor Rachel Kossman has chocolate on her mind! In her latest feature, she shares her picks for great Boston-area events, stores and restaurants to make your sweet tooth happy – check out this excerpt featuring your favorite South End restaurant!

If going out for drinks is more your thing, Copley Square’s City Table has concocted a martini for those with a sweet tooth. Their ‘Willy Wonka’ is made with chocolate vodka, Godiva white & dark, and dark creme de cacao. Of course they aren’t the only ones with cocoa on their cocktail menu — 28 Degrees serves a chocolate raspberry truffle drink made with godiva white chocolate, vanilla vodka and Chambord liqueur, as well as a chocolate espresso martini. And don’t forget the delicious hot toddies at Finale!

“Miss A” Gushes about 28

Ask Miss A Article on South End Restaurant 28 Degrees

Check out this fantastic article on 28 Degrees featured on Ask Miss A. “Founded by Andrea Rodgers in 2008, Miss A was originally inspired by the Washington, DC socialite’s LateNightShots.com moniker ‘Miss A,’ under which she gave advice to thousands of exclusive subscribers. 28 Degrees In Boston’s South End
By Lauren Fish

28 Degrees, located on the corner of Tremont and Appleton Street in the South End, is one of those restaurants that, once you eat there, you will come back to again and again.

Named after the temperature of a perfect martini, 28 Degrees has a great vibe the minute you walk in the door. The space is modern and dimly lit, making it romantic and cozy on a cold evening. The bathroom area has running water on the ceiling and you can see through the walls into the washroom area. Something you must see in person to appreciate.

And the food lives up to the atmosphere. We started with the small plates which are great for sharing and range in price from $11 to $15.The sweet corn salad was the perfect combination of sweet and tangy, with arugula, goat cheese and, of course, sweet corn. The yellowfin tuna tartare was very fresh and seasoned correctly, set on a light crispy wonton.

The large plates sampled were the seared local scallops and seared strip steak. The scallops were perfectly cooked and were laid on top of potato puree and spinach; which was a good accompaniment for the winter season. The steak was served with fingerling potatoes and asparagus with bordelaise Jus. Truffle parmesan fries, although not included on any dish, are a great side plate for sharing. Large plates range in price from $18 to $29.

The drinks were just as tasty as the food. The frozen bellini, which is the signature drink at 28 Degrees, was light and sinful at the same time. Even though winter is upon us, I highly suggest you try this concoction. Also tasted was the blueberry basil martini, which was right on target with the amount of sweet fresh blueberries vs. alcohol vs. basil.

To end the evening, the dessert platter had something for everyone; embracing all the tastes and flavors anyone could ask for.

We thank “Miss A” for this fabulous write up. For a moment, it made us blush!
