A Cocktail for Every Mood

From the Bar

Guest Blogger Kinsey Michaels shares her cocktail tasting experience from 28!

The bold offerings on the cocktail menu at 28 Degrees undeniably match the swanky, up-and-coming vibe of the South End. I visited the lounge last Thursday to sample their signature drinks, including a new holiday libation made with locally bottled Bourbon.

The Frozen Bellini, served up in a martini glass, was incredibly refreshing and easy to drink. I am not surprised that this is a favorite of many regulars! It’s a delightful swirl of champagne, peach liquor, and vodka.

I was so excited to try the Naughty & Spice. This seasonal martini goes down smooth and light, and gets some of its holiday flair with a cinnamon sugar rim. Many of the offerings on the 28 Degrees menu include local flavors and fresh ingredients and this was no different. Crafted with Infusion Diabolique Bourbon and exclusively sold at only 3 retailers, the spirit is made with a unique combination of fresh and dried figs, cinnamon, and vanilla bean. Peach liquor and orange juice mixed into the drink present a nice finish.

The Blueberry Basil martini is a sweet, earthy drink – enjoyable to sip on, and elected as another popular preference. A basil leaf floating on the top gives the drink some added pizzazz.

I have to be unapologetically honest about the fact that up until this night, I had never tried a Caipirinha before, and 28 Degrees offers two different kinds. For those that are unfamiliar, what mojitos are to Cuba are what caipirinhas are to Brazil, using a base ingredient of cachaca. I sprung for the Elderflower and Grape Caipirinha, which was muddled with fresh limes and grapes.

And not for the faint at heart, there is also a Passion Fruit Inferno Caipirinha, concocted with chili infused leblon cachaca. This drink was a little too spicy for me, but my friend Stephanie loved the fusion of passion fruit and chilies and thought it created a unique flavor profile.

For the gal who wants a modern twist on a Sex and the City staple, look no further than the Pomegranate Cosmo. The pretty cocktail has girly looks, sweet flavors, and just the slightest hint of lime.

If you’re looking for a fun and funky cocktail experience, 28 Degrees is a must. The atmosphere is sleek and conducive to conversation, while their modern take on classic drinks is positively refreshing. And with three ever-changing seasonal offerings, there’s always an array of new drinks to taste. I look forward to returning for a second visit!
